For over 50 years blonde jokes clean and stand-up comedians have played a significant role in the evaluation of society and popular culture. Several generations of comedians have served as critics and observers of American life. Many comedy acts have also courted controversy.
At this time, people inside and outside the universe of comedy are debating what, if anything, is too controversial for use that is comedic. Quite simply, should comedians concern themselves with “political correctness?”
To be’ politically correct,’ or PC, means to avoid language that is, or could be, offensive to several people. It is normally found in sarcasm, yet, by those who reject political correctness.
Comic Jerry Seinfeld created the enormously successful television show “Seinfeld.” He is a leading critic of the so called PC movement. Actually, he recently said that he’d no longer perform at U.S. faculties and universities because he considers students to be too PC.
John Cleese Chris Rock, Lisa Lampanelli and other influential comedians also have expressed similar views. They say an unreasonable sensitivity is represented by political correctness. They claim that that it confines open conversation and hurts comedy. Writer and comedian Jim Norton has suggested that society is now “addicted to the rush of being offended.”
Not all performers agree, yet. Katherine Jessup has been doing stand-up comedy for more than 3 years. She’s also a writer and co-host of the podcast, “Guidance! with Dave & Kat.”
Ms. Jessup says part of the problem is that for a long time, guys have been the only people in the stand up community with any power. She feels these individuals are protesting because they don’t want the community to transform and they don’t want to lose control.

I am proud of them. There’s power in that. There’s a management. Even if I’m objectifying myself, I’m OK with that.” At the event, the words about Jenner of Kardashian were few but also fair. “Unless you’re actually going through it, you will never 100 percent realize it. Caitlyn is so thankful for all of that … Everyone has another psychological transition to find their particular means to support it. Caitlyn has helped me learn to be less judgmental of others.”
